Whats Up?

thats the question that everyone has been asking for the last few weeks:  “whats  up?”

I’m not realy sure how to begin. The answers I usually give people is  “trying to  surive the heat” or “pretending to stay out of  trouble”.  I give them these answers so as not to go into a lot of detail. The truth is is that there is no easy way to explain my life down here.   

So what is really up?   First and foremost I have been (littleraly) trying to stay out of trouble. Now that may sound a bit uncharictaristic for me but , believe it or not, it is the truth.     So, for me, what does staying out of trouble entail?   Well, to start with,

#1.  House work, you know, Laundrey, Dishes, floors, dirty  little noses and thorns to be taken out of little bare feet.  I thank God that the well hasn’t dryed out yet and that we are still getting town wáter every other day so that we can still get cloths washed.  Aslo I am thankful that Holly has been able to get out of bed and do a fair share of the work now. J  

#2.   Communication….not something  that comes easily to me.  Sure I can sit down and write an e-mail, but it’s not the same.  I mean, how absolutly uncomfertable is it when you have an rash and don’t really want any body to see it? :-P   But I have been (slowly) learning that to communicate my problems is actually good for me in the end….. oregano oil will probably take care of that rash and if it doesn’t start puting Hydrocortazon on it.

#3.   Learning responsability.   Ok, go ahead and laugh.   I have been learing that if I want to be in a happy home with happy people I need to get ALL the laundery throught the washer and off the lines before dark, the kitchen cleaned up, lunch at 11:30 A.M.,  etc…..        Unfortunately I still haven’t learned to get out of bed in good time….something I should probably work on but am too lazy. :-P   I have learned to go shopping , which, if you know me, you know I DON’T like! (at all!!)

#4.  Spanish.   You may think that I don’t have any problems with Spanish, that I have it all down and have perfect grammer and blah, blah, blah.   Well let me tell you, you have a new think coming.     The only way I have survived is by learning how to get around using words or phrases that I’m not familiar with. (Just ask my tutour! J)  Sometimes I would get downright embarrassed at some of the things I say wrong if I wouldn’t have learned to laugh at myself and then correct myself while filing it away for future reference.

#5.  The heat.   Unlike the northern hemisphere’s 4 seasons of  Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter,  (Or  Wisconsin’s Amlost Winter, Winter, Still Winter, and road construction)  We in Guatemala have 2 seasons:  Wet season and Dry season. I have found that the natives down here are still very optimistic about it though, the still tack the “Winter” name on the wet season and “Summer” on the dry season…..I am a realist: Wet and Dry.  Right now we are in the dry season. We have been blessed so far because, since the rains lasted longer this year, we still have enough water.   Though, at some point we will have to get  water barrels and go to the public well to get the water we need.

So what is Wet season like?  Just like dry season, the name fits the season.   Instead of dust over everything, there is mud.  Mud…..thats actually a good way to describe wet season.   December, January and February land right in the middle of  it…the season, I mean, not the mud....  and it’s during those months that it gets the coldest.   Yeah I know what your thinking: “Cold? In the tropics???? HA! I hear ya!”    Yeah well, I got some news for ya!  When it gets down to the upper 50’s lower 60’s and you can sit in church and watch the preachers words steam as the come out of his mouth…..it’s cold. SO THERE!

So, a summery of this blogpost:

#1. House work…..Who , me?? Yeh haha, right!

#2. Communication.  I don’t get rashes…what would give you that Idea?

#3. Resposablility.  Yeah, I’ll finish that one up when I wake up for supper…maybe.

#4. Spanish. I didn’t care about me grammer in English why should I care about it in sapnish?

#5. The heat….what heat? I’m typing this in the pool!

Wet season?  I LOVE RAIN AND MUD!!!!!
